He holds the B.A. in Music Education from Harding University, the M.M. in Wind Conducting from the University of Delaware, and the Doctor of Arts degree in Wind Conducting (secondary concentration in orchestral studies) from the University of Northern Colorado.  His dissertation treated funeral music styles historically, theoretically—and practically, in that it offered new transcriptions of landmark funeral pieces for use by various instrumental ensembles.

An advocate of chamber music for all levels of instrumentalists and past conductor of several community and professional ensembles, including the Kansas City Wind Symphony, Casey is also an active horn performer, performing with the Houghton Brass Quintet, the Hornell Area Wind Ensemble, and the Southern Tier Symphony.

Casey has had instrumental compositions and transcriptions performed by the Dallas Wind Symphony Brass, the Heart of America Wind Symphony Brass, the Kansas City Brass Project, Offutt Air Force Base’s Winds of Freedom Woodwind Quintet, and the University of Northern Colorado’s Grad Brass Quintet and Foundation Brass, and the Houghton Philharmonia.
